Benzoin gum has traditionally been used in Asia as a skin preparation for relieving shingles pain
It is an aromatic resin extracted from tree bark and used in many herbal preparations. It has both antiseptic and astringent properties and is an ingredient of many skin and cosmetic products.
Benzoin preparations are effective in healing small cuts, sores, and chapped or blistered skin. They also have the ability to disinfect and tighten skin tissues.

Calamine and Menthol Liniment relieves the itching caused by shingles.
You can get it from a local drug store or prepare it yourself by mixing the easily found components together.
Ingredients are 78% calamine lotion, Rubbing alcohol 20% and 1% each of menthol and phenol.

You can use aspirin on your skin. To do this, crush 2 tablets into 2 tablespoonfuls of rubbing alcohol or chloroform to create a thick paste (be careful not to inhale chloroform and keep tightly capped and safely stored).
